Developed by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and supported by the John H. and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation, Onward 4 Excellence supports student learning by fostering the learning of leaders and teachers. 

Onward 4 Excellence supports collaborative professional growth in three areas: 

Curriculum and Instruction:
Onward 4 Excellence offers a range of professional development to build the capacity of teachers within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to improve student learning.

Instructional Leadership:
Onward 4 Excellence builds the capacity of leaders within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to implement a cycle of continuous improvement.

Data Assessment:
Onward 4 Excellence supports schools within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the use of data to inform instruction and measure growth.

Our Vision

The Academic Excellence pillar at the Department of Catholic Schools is supported by Onward 4 Excellence, a partnership with the
John H. and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation.

Elementary School Vision: Administration and faculty exhibit professional competency and engage in on-going collaborative professional growth to ensure that every student is on track for high school and college career readiness.

High School Vision: All students in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will graduate spiritually and academically prepared to succeed in college and life. To ensure this, educators will collaborate to focus on learning and improvement.

More Supports

The Onward 4 Excellence team provides support and guidance for Onward Readers (TK-8) and Onward 4 Educators (TK-12). 

Onward Readers is an intensive, research-based literacy initiative designed to support students, parents, teachers, and principals to ensure that all students are reading on or above grade level.

Onward 4 Educators honors educators in the Los Angeles Catholic schools by providing professional development grants to teachers and principals and tuition assistance for the children of staff members of participating Parish and Archdiocesan schools.
